1st International Linguistic Autumn School in Bremen

W elcome at the website of the 1st International Linguistic Autumn School in Bremen on the occasion of the Festival of Languages in Bremen (Germany, 17 September – 7 October, 2009).

In the context of the Festival of Languages the University of Bremen offers the unique possibility to university students of linguistics and/or philological disciplines to attend the 1st International Linguistic Autumn School in Bremen to explore the wonderful world of languages. Interesting and exciting lectures on the topic of language(s) will be presented by renowned linguists from around the world. In addition to the linguistic specialist events at a series of international conferences there will be various exhibitions and events all over the city, both for students and for the interested public.

Programme

The Core of the Autumn School Programme is formed by the linguistic Conferences during the Festival of Languages. Attendance of these conferences is included in the Attendance Fees. Additionally, attendance of any of the other events in the programme of the Festival of Languages will count towards the Autumn School. Please note that for individual events additional costs may arise.

On the seventh day of each week (23.9., 30.9., 7.10.) there will be a Poster Session at the "Gästehaus der Universität am Teerhof". Participation in the Poster Session will count as 8 hours towards the presenter's workload.

In addition, on any other day of the week 2 hours are set aside for the preparation of the poster presentation and will count towards the workload required for the certificate.

Festival Pass

Each student will get their individual Festival Pass which not only serves the purpose of taking track of attendance and assignments but also entitles the holder to participate in the events of their choice.

Credits

Through active participation in the events of the festival students can acquire five credits per week if the following conditions are met:

  1. Students must be enrolled at their home university. Proof of enrollment must be submitted when the certificate of achievement is issued.
  2. Students must be enrolled in the Autumn School (Registration)
  3. Students must provide proof of the full-week/full-day (8 hours a day/7 days per week) attendance with their Festival Pass.
  4. Students are expected to complete a weekly assignment in the form of posters presented at a Postersession under the general heading Perspectives on languages issues. Dates: 23/09, 30/09, and 7/10 (location and time will be announced)

Certificate

The successful three-week participation in the events of the Festival (amounting to 15 credits) entitles you to the Festival Certificate indicating the amount of credits you receive and specifying the events in which you participated and the achievements you completed. The certificate will be signed by all members of the Scientific Board of the Festival.

Attendance Fees

Hinweis:The deadline for early bird discounts has expired, and the relevant options have been removed form the information below and from the online registration procedure.

  1. The participation fee for participants from the EU Member States (including Faroe Islands and Greenland), as well as Andorra, Australia, Iceland, Japan, Canada, Liechtenstein, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and the United States of America is € 200 per week
  2. Participants from other countries will receive a discount of 50%.
  3. The participation fee for students from the universities of Oldenburg and Bremen is € 50.00 per week

Registration

The linkbutton below will take you to the online-registration site. For the award of credits (ECTS credits, and festival-Certificate) we need the name of your home university and your matriculation number.

After successful registration you will receive immediate confirmation via email along with a summary of your postings. An invoice with the necessary information will follow within the next few days. For this we need a valid email-address.

In addition to the online-registration option there is also a PDF form available for download, which you can print out, fill in and send by fax or mail (fax number and mailing address are on the form). However, we ask you urgently to register online, if possible.

Accomodation

We try to do our best to supply the participants of the autumn school with as many details as possible about cheap accommodation options available. Bookings in hostels or youth hostels should be made as early as possible, since experience shows that during the period in question (September / October, i.e. the beginning of the semester at the University of Bremen) there will be a great demand for accomodation, and overbooking is to be expected.
